3 Can foods cause a break out?

My personal answer to that is yes but this is a personal view. My acne went away when I was in Nigeria and we could not get milk except condensed milk - which I could not stand in tea or coffee. I also hate the smell of hot milk. My acne just cleared up when I stopped drinking milk. I have no idea if this is related. I have never drunk fizzy drinks except fizzy water and do not react well to them so that is also my body advising me what not to eat or drink.

On another occasion when I had a bad breakout on my back I tracked it down to an anti-dandruff shampoo which was just too harsh for my skin and I was not rinsing it off my back properly. On my hairdressers advice I stopped using the shampoo and now use a natural nettle shampoo which keeps my back clear. Be aware that if you rinse your hair forwards it can cause a breakout on your forehead if you are sensitive to either shampoo or conditioner.

4 Does a stressful life cause Acne?

While not a direct causation of acne it is true that you are more likely to have a break-out if you are stressed. This is due to a hormone called Cortisol which aggravates existing Acne.

Some high end anti-depressants have shown in tests to increase acne. If you have these prescriptions you should read the 'white paper' inside the box and talk to the pharmacist about any links. It is best to talk to the doctor but that is not always possible or as quick as it is to go to the drug store or chemist.

5 Acne will go away without treatment!

Normally acne needs treatment to clear it up. With the vast selection of treatment available there is no reason not to try both medical and natural treatments. Some of the medical treatments can be very strong and you need to talk about the side effects with a dermatologist if you are very worried.
